Extracted Tooth

Mark S. Roisman, DMD provides dental extractions in Westport, CT. Call 203-227-6338 to learn more and schedule your appointment.

As a dentist, Dr. Roisman’s goal is to save your natural teeth wherever possible, but sometimes a tooth cannot be preserved with restorative dentistry. In these cases, a tooth extraction may be needed to restore your oral health. The most common reasons for extracting a tooth include infection, severe damage, and crowding.

What Happens During a Tooth Extraction Procedure

Dr. Roisman can perform a simple tooth extraction procedure in our office, but impacted teeth that require surgical extraction are referred to an oral surgeon.

Local anesthesia is used to numb the tooth and the surrounding area. Next, a dental instrument called an elevator is used to gently loosen your tooth from the jaw. The tooth is carefully removed using forceps. The entire procedure takes only a few minutes, and you may or may not require sutures to close your gums after the extraction.

Following your tooth extraction, we will provide you with specific aftercare guidelines to follow in the days and weeks after your procedure. A simple extraction normally requires only a few days to recover from, at most, and many patients return to work the next day.
